Midway through Addison Rae’s weeklong fashion recap in 7 Days 7 Looks, she gives us a little preview of what might be her next TikTok video. “I was trying to learn a TikTok. But, I haven’t learned it yet,” the social media star says laughing, after practicing a quick move in the mirror. “I was trying in my green room.”
The full clip sees 20-year-old Rae as she guides Vogue (and her 79.8 million TikTok followers) through what she wears in a week. On Monday, it all begins with an iteration of her everyday look—a sports bra worn as a crop top, a longline white Theory blazer, cutoff jean shorts by American Eagle, and Dries Van Noten Chelsea boots. “Whenever I try to get dressed up to go somewhere, especially if it’s casual—just going out for a walk or to the store—I try to grab something that kind of contrasts a little bit,” Rae says of her shorts and blazer pairing. “I haven’t always been into blazers because I am from Louisiana. I used to just go to [dance] practices and school, so I wouldn’t really dress up very much, but now I am doing a lot more, so I do get dressed up.”
Though Rae’s looks throughout the week run the gamut from casual gym wear and throwback Juicy Couture tracksuits to mini and slip dresses, the TikToker’s style overall captures the transitional qualities of reemergence fashion. She still prioritizes clothes rooted in comfort, but items meant for a post-Covid world, like short dresses and high heels, also make an appearance.
Fittingly, Rae wears sneakers for the majority of the week but kicks them off in exchange for a pair of Jimmy Choo pumps and By Far heeled booties on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday’s looks. “I’m fine with walking in heels. I don’t really care how far I have to walk in heels. I have a really high pain tolerance,” Rae says before reconsidering. “I just think, like, why? Like, why would you do it if you didn’t have to? I’m just used to it because of dance. Dancing kind of trained my feet to be tough. Preferably, I’d rather wear sneakers if I’m going to walk a couple of blocks.”
Rae caps off the week in a Fleur du Mal midi slip dress and embellished Jimmy Choo skyscraper sandals. “I feel super sleek and sexy in a slip dress,” Rae says. “It also makes me reminiscent of the ’90s… Jennifer Aniston, Kate Moss, a lot of the supermodels in the ’90s would wear slip dresses.” In the look, which despite its longer length, can still evoke a sultry vibe for a night out, Rae delivers a poignant moment. “What I miss most about going out is human interaction. I feel like all of us miss being able to connect with new people that we meet.” Indeed, Rae’s sentiment rings true. Getting dressed up in the months ahead is rooted in something deeper—we’re eagerly awaiting reconnecting with those we’ve sorely missed and those we’ve yet to know.
