The OG 90s Supermodels will tell their stories in a documentary

  • 5859

‘The Supermodels’ will be coming to Apple TV, and feature Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington

When the supermodels arrived on the scene at the start of the 1990s, they represented a dramatic shift in fashion – models became more than just the people who wore the clothes, but were glamorous personalities who could demand serious paycheques. Essentially, the Supers laid the blueprint for modelling as we know it today.

Now, thirty years later, the ‘big four’ models – that’s Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington Burns – are getting the documentary treatment as a new film coming to Apple TV will tell their story.

Announcing the film, called The Supermodels, each posted the same image to their Instagram – from the era-defining moment that they sauntered down the runway lip-syncing to George Michael’s “Freedom! ‘90” at Versace’s AW90 show.

“I’m excited to reunite with my friends to both celebrate and examine the way supermodels transcended the traditional perceptions and limits of modeling in the fashion industry,” said Crawford – whose daughter Kaia Gerber is following in her high fashion footsteps.

“We hope our journey seen in the docuseries will encourage, motivate and inspire young people around the world.” said Campbell, while Evangelista noted her hope that “people to see this as a celebration of not only our individual stories, but also to the power of friendship, dreams and perseverance.”

As for the team behind the camera: director Barbara Kopple is known for her documentaries, while production company Imagine has worked on films like 8 Mile, Frost/Nixon, and A Beautiful Mind.

The date is still TBC.
