Just recently, we’ve learned some tragic news that Shaq‘s sister Ayesha Harrison-Jex has died at the age of 40. Diagnosed with cancer three years ago, Ayesha fought each and every day. Prior to, Ayesha had studied at Florida A&M University and earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. Additionally, she was a proud mother to her son Bryce. Friends and colleagues have shown their support for Shaq and his family during this rough time.

“Basically the ‘Big Fella,’ who I’ve described as ‘the biggest kid in the world’, his heart is breaking tonight. He said his world revolves around his brother and two sisters.”

Last Thursday, fans were quick to notice O’Neal’s absence on TNT’s Inside the NBA. Ernie Johnson, Shaqs co-host, stated Shaq was struggling with the tragedy and that “his heart was breaking tonight”. O’Neal later thanked Ernie and his colleagues for their support on Twitter but has remained quiet elsewhere.

As a result of Ayesha’s sudden passing, Shaq, AKA DJ Diesel, has chosen to take a well-deserved break from his tour. O’Neil was all set to play in Dallas, Texas alongside 1788-L, YehMe2, and ETC! ETC!. Unfortunately, Shaq had to cancel his appearance. Regardless, it is unknown how many future tour dates may be affected. Currently, friends and family have priorities set on mourning the loss of their loved one.

Nonetheless, it’s reported that Harrison-Jex will be laid to rest in a military cemetery, buried next to Shaq’s stepfather, Sgt. Phillip Harrison. Lastly, we wish Shaq all the best and are waiting for him out on the dance floor whenever he’s ready.
