The sun was beaming and the drinks were pouring at Day 1 of the 2015 Made In America festival. Taking place on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, day 1 of the buzzing event proved to be one for the history books.

Headlined by Beyoncé, day 1 of MIA saw the likes of Meek Mill, De La Soul, Vic Mensa, G-Eazy, Earl Sweatshirt, Nick Jonas, Modest Mouse and many other amazing acts. The day got started with the rambunctious Earl Sweatshirt, who set things off on the Liberty Stage early in the afternoon. Keeping the crowd on their toes, Earl bared the heat and gave the early attendees reason to party.

Moving our way over to the main stage — the Rocky stage — Chicago’s own Vic Mensa hit the stage in major fashion. Performing hit records such as “Feel That” and the newly released “I Been,” Vic also performed a new song, which is reportedly titled “Ring The Bell” according to sources. Nothing like a young kid from the Chi making his mark on Philly. Following those two was the Bay’s own G-Eazy back at the Liberty Stage, who had every female in the MIA crowd going wild. Performing hit after hit, going from a leather jacket to a simple white tee, G also faced the scorching heat during Made In America.

The most nostalgic part of the evening came when the legendary trio De La Soul made their way to the main stage, taking us down memory lane. Posdnuos, Dave and Maseo taught lessons to the younger fans in the crowd, and catered to our veteran hip-hop fans as well. The trio served up performances of their hit records including “Me, Myself and I,” “Stakes Is High” and much more. A necessary feat of the 2-day event.

Returning to the Liberty stage (notice a pattern?), the heartthrob himself Nick Jonas made his presence felt in Philly. Letting loose his hit records including “Chains” and “Jealous,” Nick had the MIA crowd (mainly the females, as expected) wrapped around his finger. Going strong for a solid 45 minutes, the Jo Bro left his mark on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The night took an incredible turn around 6:30 pm EST when Philly’s own Meek Mill hit the main stage. Going through hit after hit, Meek performed everything from “I’m A Boss” to “Levels,” to the “Intro,” to “House Party” and more. Things really went up a notch when Meek started to talk about his “baby girl” who was “here with him tonight” giving us the feeling the MIA crowd would soon see Nicki Minaj. Well, after running through several of her hit records, the Barb herself graced the stage with Meek performing their new hit “All Eyes On You.” As expected, everyone went nuts.

Following that, Meek warmed our hearts when he brought out his son Papi on the main stage. Apparently, Papi wanted to dance in front of the whole crowd and broke out in to the “Whip” and the “Nae Nae” as the entire MIA crowd belted out in cheers. What a special moment for Meek and his son.

Then, it happened. The one and only Beyoncé made her way to the main stage roughly 3 hours after Meek did. (Don’t worry, Bassnectar and Modest Mouse kept us busy). Coming on stage with full force, Bey kicked things off with a mix of “Crazy In Love” and the new remix that just surfaced a day ago. From there, she ran through all of her old classics including “Soul Survivor,” “Diva,” “Bootylicious,” “I Care” and more. Then, she hit us with the new songs including “Drunk In Love” (no Jay, unfortunately…he was enjoying the set from the crowd.), “Feeling Myself,” “Flawless” and more.

The KarenCivil.com team was in the building for this year’s event and we couldn’t be more excited for day 2. Until then, take a look on the following page at the photos/videos we were able to get and check back later for recap on day 2.
