Ahead of a solo date in Dallas last week, guitarist Nils Lofgren had four guitars, a harp and his guitar tech’s toolbox stolen from a tour vehicle in the city. Thankfully, the missing gear has now been recovered.
In a statement released today, Dallas police said they were contacted Sunday (April 1) by a witness who had unknowingly purchased one of the longtime E Street Band member’s guitars through classifieds app Offer Up.
Police then arrested 33-year-old Oscar Mendoza, subsequently charging him with possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
Lofgren tweeted his thanks to crew members, his wife Amy, the good Samaritan who tipped off authorities and the musicians that had leant him instruments to play his gig at the Kessler Theater on March 30.
“This is my 50th year on the road and I’m not used to mishaps like this,” Lofgren told GuideLive last week. Today, the axeman tweeted that he was still awaiting a search warrant to potentially recover the toolbox from Mendoza’s vehicle.
