A few months ago, it was announced that N.W.A were among the nominees to be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Today, the inductees for 2016 have been announced, and N.W.A have landed a spot alongside Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, and Steve Miller. N.W.A have been shortlisted four times for induction now, but with all the attention they’ve received this year thanks to their highly-regarded biopic, Straight Outta Compton, the legendary rap outfit has finally received the spot they deserve.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Dr. Dre said, “When we started N.W.A, I couldn’t have imagined this.” He added, “I never thought the type of music we were making would receive such a high accolade. I have always done what I love to do, so to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is unreal. I am humbled to be included in such an amazing group of great artists.”

Ice Cube also spoke to Rolling Stone about the induction, saying, “This means that the group’s mark is solidified. We got some of the most creative, talented people in N.W.A that’s ever been compiled in one group. It’s just exciting that the group as a whole gets recognized by the whole industry as Hall of Fame-worthy.” The five acts selected will see induction at a ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 8.
