Leon stars slongside a new gen of creative changemakers, including artists, musicians, and dancers

Stella McCartney’s adidas collab first dropped in 2004 and has been going strong since then. Fusing innovative performance tech with her own clean, considered aesthetics, across the course of the last 16 years, she’s tackled everything from running and workout gear, right through to adidas’ boundary-pushing sneaker archive.

Now, the designer is back with her latest collection for the label, which this time has been split into two parts – first up, a dedicated workout edit of cropped tops, leggings, and sports bras, with a second winter capsule dropping next month. In signature muted shades, as well as a new, standout snow leopard motif, on the line up for AW20 are oversized windbreakers, high-tech hiking boots, and full-length puffers. Unsurprisingly, given McCartney’s dedication to the environment, many of the garments are crafted from recycled and repurposed materials.

Also landing today is the collection’s accompanying campaign, which this time sees Lourdes Leon step into the spotlight alongside a group of talented creative changemakers. With Leon co-directing a series of images and a short film alongside Brooklyn-based director Anna Pollack, those featured in the NY wetlands shoot include artist Uzumaki Cepeda, dancer Lynette Paz, and Blair drummer Anysia Kim Batts.

“I’ve known Lola (Lourdes) since she was a baby and working with her and this team of creatives felt very natural,” explains McCartney of the campaign. “I think it’s important we use the adidas by Stella McCartney collaboration to really highlight up-and-coming talent, really try to encourage and support the next generation of people, and give them a platform to express themselves.”

Leon, meanwhile, talks of the freedom she and the creatives she spotlighted were afforded by McCartney. “It was great because, for the campaign, Anna and I had the opportunity to create something that reflects the authenticity of working with a collective of friends who support us and share our values – dancing and moving in harmony in the wild wetlands just outside of New York City.”

With the first edit dropping today, and the winter capsule collection coming September 17, check the collection out in the gallery above.
