Kate Middleton Tests Out a New Spring Silhouette 

Kate Middleton’s collection of dresses is unmatched. Whenever the Duchess of Cambridge steps out for a public appearance, she always has a chic day dress on, be it a floral Beulah London dress one day or a polka dot Emilia Wickstead number. Given the breadth of her archive, there’s few cuts or patterns that she hasn’t tried. However, for her latest outing at the V&A Museum in London today (which just reopened its doors to the public), the royal stepped out in a fresh, vintage-inspired spring silhouette.

Middleton wore a red houndstooth, long-sleeve dress by Alessandra Rich that featured a Peter Pan collar and big buttons down the front. With its exaggerated shoulders and drop-waist skirt, it was decidedly more boxy in shape than the swishy, form-fitting dresses she typically gravitates towards. Though it’s a silhouette we don’t see often anymore, it’s reminiscent of the 1930s and ’40s. She brought it into the 21st century with navy Jennifer Chamandi pumps, a navy suede clutch, and gold hoops. Clearly, even a Duchess isn’t immune to testing out a new summer look. And it's working for her.
