Jennifer Aniston, Selena Gomez, and Laura Harrier’s New It-Bag is Perfect for Spring

Every so often, a bag seems to strike a chord with all of Hollywood. Celebrities have moved from mini-bags smaller than a matchbook (see Lizzo’s viral Valentino at the American Music Awards) to diligently collecting luxury rarities (Kim Kardashian and Cardi B’s Instagram accounts double as Hermés libraries.) Tastes are constantly changing, but for the moment, the purse du jour is Louis Vuitton’s Coussin.

A key piece from Nicolas Ghesquière’s spring/summer 2021 collection, the current incarnation of the Coussin made a splash back in October when models Emily Miller, Cyrielle Lalande, and Loli Bahia carried them on a runway. Each wore a different size, color, and texture. Shortly thereafter, the bag began to crop up on celebrities. While it’s unsurprising that Vuitton’s front row regulars like Sophie Turner, Chloë Grace Moretz, Miranda Kerr, and Laura Harrier embraced the look, their memorable outfits heightened buzz around the piece. A peek into the #LVCoussin hashtag shows how thousands of early adopters are styling the bag, whether they’re influencers, supermodels, or Dua Lipa.

Jennifer Aniston gave a crash course in casual style earlier this week when she wore the black PM version crossbody over a chunky sweater and jeans. Days earlier in New York, Selena Gomez elevated her workwear with a neon green Coussin on the set of Only Murderers in the Building. The pop of color added a playful touch to an all-black look that meant business.

Stars aside, the Coussin’s versatility is its biggest asset. Large enough to fit all the essentials but small enough to remain discreet, it’s capable of being worn in a multitude of ways. Given that there’s no shortage of monogrammed finery, the collective interest in one puffy, statement purse bodes well for the bag’s future and its status as the accessory of the season.
