Fran Drescher Pulls Off the Ultimate Outfit Repeat, 27 Years Later

Fran Drescher might have pulled off one of the most epic outfit repeats we’ve seen in a while. Yesterday the 63-year-old actor, who played Fran Fine in the 1993 sitcom The Nanny, posted on Instagram to promote The Nanny on HBO Max, her charity Cancer Schmancer, and the Fran Jam Music Festival streaming on June 20 in support of the charity. In the photo, she wore a very familiar look: A campy-chic button-up vest that was boldly striped in green, red, yellow, orange, and purple. The Moschino piece was the same vest that she had worn in a 1994 episode of the show. Drescher opted for a black turtleneck this time around, but she had initially worn the standout piece with a white shirt with exaggerated puffy sleeves.

According to Drescher via email, when HBO Max was promoting the streaming of The Nanny, she insisted that the company hire the original costume designer Brenda Cooper, who had held onto the vest for over 25 years. According to Fine, “it was Brenda who had the genius idea to ‘suggest Fran Fine’ by using the vest but ‘bring it into the moment making it more modern’ with a black turtleneck, Wolford pegged skirt, black sheer hose, and Jimmy Choo heels!”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a celeb pull off an iconic outfit repeat. Just this past May, Sharon Stone posed in a slinky vintage couture gown by Valentino in honor of Valentino Garavani’s birthday. She had worn it to two red carpet events, in 2012 and then in 2017. In 2016, Winona Ryder wore a Tom Waits graphic T-shirt on the red carpet, a piece that she had initially stepped out in back in 1991.

Another bonus with Drescher’s look? She’s right on trend with her tiny vest. The piece has been red hot among the likes of Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa, and has dotted the runways of Miu Miu, Raf Simons, and Saint Laurent. Turns out that Flashy Girl from Flushing is still epically stylish, even more than two decades later.
