Dua Lipa and Elton John Are a Fashion Match Made in Heaven

Shortly before the Oscars kicked off last night, Elton John hosted the 29th annual Academy Awards virtual pre-party, which benefited the Elton John AIDS Foundation. At the exclusive bash, John joined forces with Dua Lipa for a special two-song performance. In equally-glitzy ensembles, they proved to be a fashion match made in heaven.

For her first look of the night, Lipa wore a velvety black turtleneck gown by Balenciaga—dubbed the “Mermaid Dress”—that featured a dramatic ballooned skirt. She sported it to sing her solo hits such as “Levitating” and “Pretty Please.” Later in the evening, she then switched into a second look by the label and joined John on stage. Her silvery gown with a shredded hemline, accessorized with Fabergé jewels, was perfect for commanding a spotlight in. 

That is, of course, unless you’re sharing the stage with Elton John, a master of theatrical style. John matched Lipa’s energy by sporting a purple glitter blazer of his own, complete with his signature color-tinted shades. Together, the duo performed “Bennie and the Jets” and “Love Again.” While it was the most unexpected pairing of the evening, they totally meshed. After all, the only thing better than one glittery outfit is two glittery outfits on two beloved pop stars.
