Did Kali Uchis Just Tease a New Album?

Kali Uchis is starting the new year on the right foot, shaking up social media. On Jan. 11, the “Telepatía” singer tweeted she’s “minding her own business” so she can finish her album.

Though she gave no further details, we’re grateful she’s giving us something to look forward to this year.

This new mystery album will follow the incredible success of Uchis’ LP, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), which was certified platinum in the U.S. and reached No. 1 on the Latin Pop music charts. Last year, her first Spanish-language album won Latin Pop album of the year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.

After such a busy year, it’s no wonder that we all expected Uchis to take a break and recharge, but why on earth would she do that? If 2021 taught us anything, it’s that sad girls love money, so I for one will be getting out of Uchis’ way so she can finish this album by summer 2022. Okay, okay, beggars can’t be choosers, but can you imagine a hot girl summer without a new Kali Uchis album? Me neither.

The prospect of a new album leads me to ponder how Uchis could top Sin Miedo, which was one of the most cinematic and artistic pieces of her career to date. Previously, Uchis spoke to Remezcla about how it was pivotal for her to pay homage to artists who inspired her and were part of her upbringing. “I’m always kind of trying to do things that are true to where I come from and go back and remember those things that have a little piece of you,” says Uchis.

Sin Miedo felt personal, but it also felt elevated in a way that might be tied to Uchis’ years of experience and maturity after solidifying her status as one of the most innovative musical artists the industry has seen in recent years.

Regardless of our expectations for this new album, it’s comforting to know that we’re in good hands.
