Cardi B Goes Extra in Her Eye-Popping ‘Up’ Music Video

In 2021, there’s nowhere but “Up” to go for Cardi B. The rap superstar premiered the music video for her new single “Up” today (Feb. 5) and this time around she goes extra alone.

“Up” is Cardi B’s first single since last year’s “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion. The hip-hop stars were a knockout duo on the sexually-liberating anthem that defined 2020. With “Up,” Bardi proves that she can also do bad all by herself.

Cardi B comes through with another baddie anthem. Backed by an ’80s hip-hop beat with a trap music lean, she is loaded with more lyrical fire on “Up.” Cardi takes aims at her haters with the line: “B*tches want smoke until I bring it to they door step.” On the repetitive chorus, she says, “If it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s up, then it’s stuck.” After a few listens, “Up” will definitely get stuck in your head.

The “Up” music video is next level. Cardi B stays serving the most eye-popping visuals since breaking through with her Invasion of Privacy album in 2018. Her red-bottom heels from “Bodak Yellow” make an appearance as she looks at a grave that reads: “RIP 2020.” There’s a lot to take in here, from Cardi B dancing as a car hood ornament to kissing her girlfriends inside a clam that’s reminiscent of Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus painting. The rapper keeps raising the standard for music videos.

Cardi B declined to submit “WAP” for consideration at the Grammy Awards this year to focus on promotions for her next album. Hopefully the hotly-anticipated follow-up to Invasion of Privacy will be here sooner than later.
