Beige? Bland? Kate Middleton Begs to Differ

Beige gets a bad rap. Yes, it’s a neutral color, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring! Just look at Kate Middleton. Today, the Duchess of Cambridge attended the opening of a new hospital in Kirkwall, Scotland wearing a head-to-toe camel look, proving that wearing the hue all over can still make a serious fashion statement.

Channeling fall-winter vibes in May, Middleton wore a long camel coat from Massimo Dutti and then paired it with a tan top and matching wide-leg trousers. Even her accessories stayed in the beige-brown color family, including her thin leather belt, suede clutch, and suede pumps. The outfit’s only pop of color came via her red tartan scarf (a favorite print of hers), providing just enough visual interest to the otherwise extremely-minimal ensemble. The key to her fit’s overall success, though? The strong, interesting silhouettes and a variety of tones made up for the lack of bright color. So, make like a royal and don’t be afraid to pile on the beige this season. It still clearly packs a punch!
