Apple Music head Jimmy Iovine was joined by Mary J. Blige on CBS This Morning to talk about Apple Music’s new ads that focus specifically on women discovering new music. Blige stars in the ads along side Kerry Washington and Taraji P. Henson. When asked how Iovine came up with the commercials he responded, “So I always knew that women find it very difficult at times – some women – to find music. And this helps makes it easier with playlists, curated by real people. They’re not made by algorithms alone – they’re made by algorithms but with a human touch.”
Iovine went on to say, “I just thought of a problem: girls are sitting around talking about boys. Or complaining about boys! They need music for that, right? It’s hard to find the right music. Not everyone… knows a DJ.”
Blige backed Iovine’s idea calling it a “genius idea” and saying, “It was beautiful to have Jimmy choose me to be a part of [her co-stars’] world and them be a part of mine.” You can watch their full interview on CBS here.
