Andy Mineo's new six-song EP I:The Arrow launches at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart (dated May 12), earning 6,000 equivalent album units in its first week, ending May 3, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 4,000 were through traditional sales.
The New York City-based Christian hip-hop artist, originally from Syracuse, New York, earns his fifth Top Christian Albums appearance, with all having started in the top five, including three at No. 1.
Mineo's previous set, Andy Mineo and Wordsplayed Present Magic & Bird, debuted at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums (Aug. 26, 2017), with 11,000 units. His other No. 1s: Uncomfortable, which began atop the tally in 2015 (32,000 sold), and his debut album, Heroes for Sale, in 2013 (28,000). EP Never Land became the second of Mineo's Top Christian Albums entries, having bowed and peaked at No. 2 in 2014 (26,000).
NEW 'EXPERIENCES': On Top Gospel Albums, praise and worship leader Maranda Curtis' first LP, Open Heaven: The Maranda Experience, bounds in at No. 1, earning 3,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
The Miami-based Curtis collects her second No. 1 on Top Gospel Albums (both of which debuted at the summit). Her The Maranda Curtis Experience EP launched atop the list dated Aug. 26, 2017, with 3,000 units.
Curtis is also part of The Church Choir, an ensemble of vocalists that includes gospel music veteran John P. Kee. The collective's If God Be Us reached No. 2 on Top Gospel Albums in November 2016.
On the Hot Gospel Songs chart, which blends streaming, airplay and sales data, the Curtis' new set's lead single, “Nobody Like You Lord,” lifts 24-21, its highest rank since debuting at No. 20 in March.
Plus, Kelontae Gavin, 19, makes his first appearance on Top Gospel Albums, as the Summerville, South Carolina, native's first full-length, The Higher Experience, enters at No. 2 (2,000).
On Hot Gospel Songs, “No Ordinary Worship,” the first single from the set, hikes 25-16 in its second week on the tally. It jumps 20-14 (up 27 percent in plays) on Gospel Airplay.
